Digestive Issues:

  • When combined with insulin or insulin secretagogues (e.g., sulfonylureas), Wegovy® may increase the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).

  • Wegovy® slows digestion, which may impact the absorption of oral medications. Discuss any timing adjustments with your doctor, especially for critical medications.

Thyroid Hormone Medications:

  • If you are taking thyroid hormone replacement therapy, consult your prescribing doctor before starting Wegovy®, as dosage timing may need to be adjusted.

Medications with Narrow Therapeutic Windows:

  • Blood-thinning medications (e.g., warfarin) and other drugs with a narrow therapeutic range should be monitored closely while taking Wegovy® to ensure proper dosage and safety.

  • If persistent nausea or vomiting leads to dehydration, seek medical attention immediately.

Kidney Problems/Kidney Failure

  • Symptoms: Vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, dehydration.

  • Risk: These conditions may worsen kidney function in individuals with pre-existing kidney disease and could lead to the need for hemodialysis.

Thyroid C-Cell Tumor Risk (See Black Box Warning Below)

  • Symptoms: Trouble swallowing, hoarseness, a lump or swelling in your neck, or shortness of breath.

  • Action: Notify your doctor immediately if these occur.

Pancreatitis (Inflammation of the Pancreas)

  • Symptoms: Severe, persistent pain in the abdomen or back that does not go away.

  • Action: Stop taking Wegovy® and seek medical help.

Acute Gallbladder Disease

  • Symptoms: Pain in the middle or upper right abdomen, fever, yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), nausea, vomiting.

  • Action: Further medical tests may be needed if gallstones or gallbladder inflammation is suspected.

Hepatitis, Elevated Liver Enzymes, or Jaundice

  • Symptoms: Yellowing of the skin or eyes, unexplained fatigue, dark urine, or abdominal pain.

  • Action: Contact your doctor immediately.

Diabetic Retinopathy (For Those with Type 2 Diabetes)

  • Symptoms: Worsening vision, particularly in those with a history of diabetic retinopathy.

  • Action: Regular eye exams are recommended.

Severe Gastrointestinal Disease

  • Wegovy® may worsen pre-existing severe gastrointestinal disease.
